Not what I said at all. I said that they should have made sure that the console would be able to play its games at 1080p.

Scaler chip is the best way to keep costs down and performance up. Besides most console games native resolutions aren't even 720p. Why do people keep comparing the console and PC markets? They are not even close to the same thing. Just because they both have games doesn't make them the same thing. It's like comparing a fast food restaurant to a $100 per plate restaurant just because they both serve water.
Scaler chips wouldn't be needed if they had a minimum res of 1080p in every game.
Oh and gaming PC = console.

Consoles are about low cost systems and games only. So a scaler chip makes sense and prevents consoles from costing $700. The PS3 isn't much better, it doesn't even have a built-in scaler.
Still I see no reason why Sony or Microsoft wouldn't have enforced a minimum resolution of 1080p for their consoles.
The Ps3 also needs no scaler as most TVs come with a built-in one already.

Except for those who play at lower resolutions

Re-read my comment about how most built in tv scalers are crap.

PC monitor scalers are crap, but if you you're buying a TV Sony, Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, their scalers are equal to or better than anything you'd find in a console.

It's exactly what you said. 1080p = 1920x1080 resolution. Consoles get the newest games just like PC's do, but games at 1080p require MORE GRAPHICS POWER. You think consoles would still cost $300? Ha, not at all. Then you increases costs (imagine the costs to produce true 1080p graphics in 05/06 when the consoles launched) and you defeat the purpose of consoles, which are intended to be cheap gaming machines.

You don't see a reason? The consoles struggle to put out 60 FPS on games that are at or below 720p with little or no AA. How the hell do you expect them to produce 1080p graphics and stay within a reasonable price range.
