So heres a question... Stay with my current setup or switch to XFire 5850 or a single 5870? GTX 480 is out of the question since its $100 more then the 5870 and offers very little improvement.
I'd stay with your current setup 'til more DX11 games become available and the supply of dx11 cards increase. Don't see any reason for you to upgrade yet. CF 5850 is as fast as CF 5870 once oc:ed to 5870 speeds(there's maybe a 1-5% difference in fps). Check the article I linked too earlier(link). See no reason to go with a 5870 unless you do a lot of benchmarks.

Physx is such a bull**** bullet point. I am playing Batman:AA right now with it on at max and only time I notice it is when I sit there and look for it. Heck, I don't notice anything special in Metro at all that is using it.

My main concern regarding benchmarks is that I game at a non standard resolution, 2048x1152 so none really directly apply to me.

I'm coming from SLI'd 260's to xfire 5850's. At $300/220 a card it gives a very nice improvement at a reasonable price, plus DX11 compatability. If something comes along at the end of the year, it's not cost a bomb to see me through until then.

GF100 is not a realistic proposition for me ATM. GTX470 is a let down and the 480 is too hot, loud, expensive and not available for at least 2 weeks. 5850's are available, efficient, cheap, very OCable and scale well.

Still got the 260 for PhysX

Definitely go for it if you get a good price for your current card!

Use hacked drivers + an nvidia card and there's your physx. And their drivers aren't really poor IMO, not for a single card at least.

Have there been any reviews about a bios hacked version with the entire 480 card unlocked?

It would be nice to see what a non-gimped version would perform at (and if it would cause a nuclear melt-down).

I don't see any point in doing that. you're going to get single digit percentage increase in performance over a 295. Is it worth the price differential for dx11 features?

If he has the money and the desire, I say go for it.

Yah, its a hotter and louder product, but it is a newer product which should give enough tangible "upgrades" to justify an enthusiast

Scratch that itch.

I'll wait for the refresh in 3 months. The new NV offerings are not fast enough for forced down sampling that I want to do.

Lack of AA on ATI in games is my main beef and my reason I want to go NV again.

I found Geforce FX 5800 Ultra review with noise level at 58.8dB, it as loud as Radeon HD 5850 and 5870.
