Absolutely. You only have to look at the speed improvements in the new ATI drivers and the 5800 series has been out for over 6 months now. There are a couple of benchmarks in games where Nvidia's drivers don't go to well. I am expecting some improvements for sure.

I remember how people made funny renders making the FX 5800 Ultra look like a hairdryer back then.
The FX 5800 Ultra would be a silent card in comparison now.

Just playing Metro 2033 and Just cause 2 with my cheap 5770 crossfire setup and i am glad i didn`t wait fo nvidia to release the fermi.
The 470 and 480 seem to be a bit of a letdown but then again once the prices settle i am sure they`ll be good competition for the ATI offerings and that is what we all need to be honest.
I was worried about nvidia because of the delays. It`s never good when there is no competition. Now both companys have a decent lineup again wich is great.

Yeah thats the reason I haven't jumped to ATI even if they perform better or equally. I love nvidia's CP and nHancer that I would miss. Also the fact that nvidia buys exclusive support like ingame AA for Batman sucks.

Well... I'm going to get a 5870 LCS to replace my liquid cooled BFG 8800GTX.

I haven't had an ATi card since the 9800 Pro, which was because of the craptastic nVidia FX series.

Don't get me wrong... I've used ATi cards in other machines I've built... but my personal gaming rig has only ever had that one 9800 Pro.... only because I usually buy the best "bang for the buck" at the time of needing to purchase for my personal rig... and nVidia usually wins.

According to Hilbert @ Guru3D, the sound pressure levels that some websites are measuring are not correct, because the sound level meter is placed only one centimeter from the graphics card, which is completely unrealistic.

With the sound level meter placed 2.5 feet away from the PC (which is a realistic distance), he measured 37dBA at idle, and 45dBA at full tilt running Furmark on GTX 480.

Of course, the card is louder than most of the other cards in the test suite, but the 70dBA claims are pretty much bunk for a realistic measurement distance.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...-480-review/13

When it comes to sound pressure levels, there is an increase of 6db for each halving of distance between sound level meter and source. So this is how sound pressure level would vary with measurement distance in Hilbert's test:

30.00" distance: 45dBA
15.00" distance: 51dBA
7.500" distance: 57dBA
3.750" distance: 63dBA
1.875" distance: 69dBA

So of course, if someone puts their ear right next to the graphics card, it will be quite noisy, but at more normal distances between ear and PC, the sound pressure level is quite tolerable.

I'm running three gtx 280's Right now, and there TDP is 236 watts, a card, Also this lianLi case with all the fans and I have one blowing towards the GPU's from the side also. All three cards run high 47-49 idle to about high low 70's to high 70's load. Not to bad

Had a GTX280 myself, reached around 90C full load in an Antec 1200, so I don't believe those load temps, at least not with stock cooler and three cards.

He has very good cooling in that case. From what I have seen of the Antec, it isn't as good. Also ambiant temps play a huge part in cooling. I get at least 10 degrees difference between Summer and Winter here.

You have seen an Antec 1200 right?

GTX 480 SLi is very impressive performance wise.

I might be looking at the nVidia line up again when they do a refinement like they did with the 8800GTX to the 8800GT for the 480.

Water cooled overclocked 470s in SLi will probably end up surprising a lot of folks.

I don't know if I can wait till the end of the year for a potential refresh. I need my 3D Vision gaming dammit! I suppose I can get a pair of EVGA 480's since they have a lifetime warranty. I want to make these last till next year when I will probably rebuild my entire PC but at least I will be able to keep a few items, like my case, PSU, and probably sound card.
