SilenX do a 120mm, 18db, 90cfm fan which would be good if you have the clearance. It 38mm deep but man it shifts some air with very low noise..

Ah well, don't blame you, if I wasn't such an impulsive techhead I would have waited for real world feedback. Looks like I'll be the one to give real world feedback first now. slawter, looks like its just you and me and maybe lee63 on the SLI front now.

Don't sweat it

I've been waiting for a while to pull the trigger on my next card, but now I am in 2 minds again

I can't see myself getting the current iteration of Fermi, but I also am intrigued by what AMD may release in the next couple of weeks, if anything

Stay away from SilenX..I had five of them and all of them broke, plus they're expensive.

It's phenomenal technology which as it matures over the six months with better drivers and manufacturing improvements will set a new standard for speed image quality and feature richness. It's great to have these two companies competing to top one another as the leaps forward are amazing compared to CPUs.

I'm leaning towards a 5870, then getting another for Crossfire later.

I have a 285 now.

so is the AF filtering quality any different or the same old technique from the 200 series where at some angles it looks terrible??

Performance wise they're a little better than I expected in some cases. If it wasn't for BF:BC2 I might even want one if the price was reasonable. Hopefully a driver fixes this.

Every other way they are what I expected. Too hot, too loud and not that it matters to me, but too inefficient for their die size. It will be hard to NV to make a good profit on these cards at the moment. On top of that, with GTX 480 consuming 14w more under full load than 5970, it seems they already can't stay within the PCIe 2.1 envelope - a dual GPU card seems out of the question until Q3-Q4.

On the whole too little too late and too inefficient in just about every way. I'd hate to say it but it seems like charlie was pretty much spot on aside from being a bit too pessimistic on the performance.
