It's also possible that they see the inherent flaw with too much heat being dumped back into the case. This would also cause possible hardware failures that ARE NOT the GPU, and that could lead to... I don't know... a lawsuit or two?

Smart move by XFX. Nvidia could learn a thing or two...
Great point, and you're probably right.

+4 I was thinking about this last night. A lot of partners will be very concerned I would think.

EDIT: I think another part of the story will be that's it's gonna be hard to make a profit, even without the heat issue. If these cards don't sell as they expected they'll have to drop their margins. After a 6 month wait they need to be shifting cards and it seems to me the release of these cards has boosted ATi's sales more than nV's.

That would be a scary thought. But it would be the same on any Graphics card.

I think I'll pass on Fermi.

Kinda wondering how operating so close to the edge will affect the lifetime of a board.
If someone put out a board with a cooler that can keep it within reasonable temps without too much noise, maybe Ill have a look at it, but not as it is.

I remember what a world of difference the VF700CU did on my 6800GT, so with the right aftermarket cooler, and perhaps a bit cheaper, they might be decent boards.

It's understandable if you are happy with what you have.

It seems it wasn't XFX's decision. nV dropped them because they're selling ATi

That's why XFX had boxes (and cards apparently) already made

I'm rapidly losing any respect I had for Nvidia.

I think XFX had a lot to do with it....MSI, Gigabyte and Asus are getting 4xx's and they sell ATi.

I've made my mind up, I wont be getting any Fermi's...I just cant force my self to buy them.

I think I'll get a couple of XFX 5870s and OC the hell out of them. I can use the cash I save towards custom powder coating my case

I learned my lesson this time around...I do some stupid sh*t sometimes

Meh, we've all done that when it comes to new gear.

IMHO, you made the right choice this time round
