They're great for gaming, that's mostly what I do with my PC.

Time to change the sig back, Lee

You use tri-fire, no you not? Do you get much from the 3rd card?

Thought you were committed to getting EVGA 480's in sli? Says so in your sig? After installing my new 5870 yesterday I can't imagine why you would get away from 2 5870's in crossfire. Just from my day long experience these cards are awesome. I can't wait to go crossfire w/ 2 of these babies this summer!!

Looks like the heat and longevety issue is a problem w/ you just like it was for me. I've really enjoyed my GTX260 the last 1 1/2yrs, but now it's ATI and my new 5870.

Keep an eye on this one, see how much it goes for

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GTX-295-EVGA-C...item35a839ee7a

Just don't do a BiN or a high starting bid. I'd think 250 easy.

There's still 4 days on that one. See how it goes. It could fetch 350 yet. They're getting hard to find new ATM and they're still 430.

Edit: Looks like they can be had for 370, so I'd think 350 would be a lot to expect second hand. Maybe 300, prolly more like 250 though.

I understand the new hardware bug more than most, but going from tri-fire 5870 to 480 SLI just doesn't make any sense if your primary concern is gaming. The SLI setup won't be as fast, and it runs much, much hotter.

Just too bad you sold the cards already.

Yeah I have a 5870 in my second rig thats purely for gaming on my big screen. But since I do programming in CUDA, and I have 3D Vision on my main rig, the GTX 480s are a no-brainer for me, even with the high temps and power consumption. The only thing I'm concerned about is that apparently the idle power draw is insanely high for if you have more than one monitor connected to a 480 because the clocks don't throttle down even when idling. I hope that gets corrected in a driver, or I might have to start setting manual underclocked profiles.

Can the cards be undervolted? The GTX 280 could, although it had analogue VRMs.
