It was a jump from DX10 over DX10.1(almost) to DX11. There will be at least 2 generations of cards based on this architecture in the future. They released them with a driver, that doesn't even enable all of it's features. We've seen quite a jump in performance within the last 6 months with ATI.
Yup, he works for NV. |

I also bit the bullet and bought a HIS 5870 from a fellow member
i was eager to have a GTX480 but with the heat (and summer at the doors) i couldn't justify to buy one.. hopefully the refresh will be on smaller die size with better terms..Oh and since my GTX280 died 2 weeks ago also didn't help.. gaming on old 8800 GTX ![]()

Raid 1 - 2x80Gb Intel X25-M -> gives me 7.9 WEI -> OS + Programs Raid 0 - 2x1Tb Samsung HDDs -> Games Raid 1 - 2x1Tb Samsung HDDs -> Backup and everything else I had to remove PCIe TV Card. Problem were my power connectors on the board, couldn't install video card on top of it, so i had to do different setup where i had to remove TV Card, otherwise one more card could fit in there. This is eVga x58 4Way SLI board. At least i kept my Xi-Fi.

Thanks, i was afraid that it will run hot but i was surprised by temperatures. Only spot on mobo which suffered a bit of heat was NB so i had to add 40mm on it, you can't see it from this angle which dropped temperature from 70+ C down to 50+ C which is acceptable. VRM runs pretty cool 50+ C, CPU as well.

Ater reading all the debating going on... call me an nv fanboy, but I feel this heat issue has been blown out of proportion. I feel personally that ATI won this round, NV is late, and with unrefined architecture, but nevertheless, the card accomlishes its objective. It could have been better, but it still fast, and carries features that the ATI cards dont have. Performance is between the 5870 and the 5970, and so is the price. That it's a couple of degrees hotter then the other cards, big deal, get a card with lifetime warranty. Queue the nv fanboy bashers because of my comments, but I bet a big part of you will get a 480 anyways.

You are right, that it's easy to think that saying something negative on a forum that is 80% biased - can be taken out of context. I've found that it takes a certain amount of constructive tact, when dealing with such matters. You got that, all you FANBOIS?!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
