The same thing done for the PC.

Now go and search for highest piracy rates and tell me you don't see a pattern.

Yup people in poor countries are always going to pirate games, but what I don't get is how they can afford the system to play the games in the first place if they can't afford the games. PC hardware isn't by any means cheap nor is an xbox360/Ps3 by their standards. Selling games a lot cheaper in poorer countries wouldn't be the worst idea, but I'm under the impression that PC games are already sold for a lot less yet pirated anyhow.

I guess most of them are students, so they get money on the PC from their parents.

You're right, PC games are cheaper, but it's still not enough. Average price of ME2 in Belarus is 35 bucks, yet they still need 17hrs to earn enough money for it. It's 2:20 for the USA with average price of 50 bucks. X360 version costs 89 bucks over there That's 42hrs.

well you know....if you can't afford video games you have no right to play, no right to have entertainment if you can't afford it. these are for people with better income ya know???

and i also agree that we ban torrent/ed2000..etc all together, also put in UbiDRM in every new games.

let's see how game sales at that point then!

I probably should have put "have pirated" rather than "pirate" but it's still a minor thing. This shows how pervasive the problem is, low level or high.

More surprising to me is how high the console rates are. On the PC, you just click a link. On console, some work has to be put in. That's the biggest shocker to me.
It counts all consoles, and older consoles like the original Xbox were insanely easy to modify and most people I know did so.

Richteralan if you don't care about your income as a game publisher, sure, you can do that. They don't have the money for a game with prices like that, so you won't get anything. My point is, that price really matters and in my opinion it's always better to get something, than nothing at all.

We have global pricing a lot of the time, I guess not all the time. Funny thing is when publishers do charge less in some countries people in richer countries flip out because they have to pay more.

No one is ever happy paying money, which is why piracy is such a huge temptation.

Steam only, no gift option or country locked, prices based on country's economy, always online protection, problem solved

There would be a lot of whining at the beginning I guess, but they would get used to it.

How dare they want a return on investment and money for their work.

I know it isn't fair, but neither is life. Games are really something of a luxury and not something that everyone is entitled to. So saying that stealing is okay because you can't afford it isn't really that great of an argument. Don't know how they should tackle the problem, but banning torrents would be a good start imho.

Wow, I did not expect it to be that high on consoles. Plus those are pretty much pure lost sales. On PC side, there are more reasons to pirate than simple wanting it for free i.e. no demo to test system, can't get legal bought version to work, bypassing DRM or not avail to buy in country.

Seriously. I buy my games. What do you want us to do, buy theirs too?

Also, check out how many people pirate games on the PS3. The answer is zero. The majority of pirated console games are on soft-modded consoles like the Wii. The number of pirates on 360 is pretty large, too.
