I played with 6 panel EyeFinity at PAX East at the Alienware booth. It was total crap.

With three panel setups most of the action happens in the center display and the side panels are mainly peripheral vision. For some reason, this feels natural and your mind kind of ignores the bezels.

Not so with 6 panel Eye Finity though- the bezels bisect the main action and there are so many bezels you constantly notice them and how things are all broken apart by them. I think if I actually purchased a junk display like that I'd sue ATi. It's that bad.

Maybe I'll take you up on that sometime. I have Cosmos 1010 with 3 X 120mm exhaust at te top of the case, 1 X 120mm on the side blowing on GPUs, and 1 X 120mm bottom front intake.

I gamed a few hours last night playing Metro 2033 and UT3 and then conducted the highly scientific "put hand behind video card and fans" test and didn't really notice the air being hot.

I also didn't notice the noise ratcheting up, or any change in gameplay experience. (artifacting, throttling)

My guess is that if you have a case with decent airflow the experience using these cards is pretty much the same as using a 4870X2 or GTX295.

i think this eyefinity and...what eva the **** nvidia one is called..is really stupid.

just get one big screen people.

people in the future will be laughing at us when they see the kind of tech this is lol.

maybe it might be ok for 3d movies/etc..if you reaally want it...but i really think it's not that special and the gpu power needed to get the games running at that resolution is going to be massive...

How would three screens be good for movies? The bezels alone would make the whole experience crappy not to mention the weird aspect ratio.
Eyefinity is pretty cool, but I'd still take one giant screen over it any day.

eyefinity is only good for work enviroment when you have to run many displays, and look at a lot of data constanty

but in a case like that i would just buy the Matrox card that supports even more monitors

The whole bezel thing would bug the **** out of me, but for flight sims I think it would rock. It would be no different than looking out of the ****pit.

HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition graphics. Equipped with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 is the first graphics card capable of rendering up to 1 billion pixels per second

Only because of the 3D part- Eyefinity could push those 50" as they're only running at 1920 x 1080- relatively low resolution for all the screen real-estate.

Thanks. I ran through three runs, so I would estimate that they ran around 5 minutes. I like the idea of long-term testing so I'll give that a go.

Thanks! The testing was done in an open case, meaning the the side panel was off. I DID NOT use a 120mm fan.
