Or does it make no difference and standard versions can overclock just as well? Because unless the superclocked versions overclock better what is the advantage in getting them?
EVGA forum member got his vanilla card clocked at 800mhz core rest of clocks i don't remember, and his temp running furmark was 81c, and 70c while gaming.

800/1600 (shaders) and 2000 (memory) I believe it was.

The results I'm seeing confirmed I made the right choice. At least for me.

I could possibly make a change down the line when they make revisions/refinements.

It's good that you are happy with your purchase. IMO you can't go wrong with either manufacturer this generation. Performance on both cards is very similar, so features do play a big part in our choice.

Most of the time the super clock cards are higher bin chips,My BFG 280 GTX OCX came at 665/1458/2400 but it would overclock to 720/1566/2640 and my other BFG GTX 280 were just standard 602/1188/2100 and they would overclock to a OCX 665/1458/2400 but that was about it ,they would go one step higher but nothing like my OCX would overclock.Everbody makeing me want a GTX480,but I know I would be dissapointed not by the performance ,but the heat and the loud fan ,everbody that I have read on forms that have one say they have to keep the fan at almost 100% to keep the card around 80c.I know they are supposed to be fine up to 105c ,but that just seems to hot to run a card at.thats 221 degrees Fahrenheit ,you should be able to boil water or use it for a heater in the winter LOL.

From what I have read it has a lot to do with the type of case you have. One without many Fans or good airflow wouldn't suit these cards. Also Ambient temps also play a huge part.

Yeah if you have good airflow intake on your computer to video cards and your room where the computer is at has cool air, Airconditioner like I have a 13000 BTU in my room, it's going to pull that cool air in your case.Winter time just crack the window.
