Haven't got them yet, just prematurely updating my specs. I should be getting them in tomorrow. First concern is sorting out any temperature issues if there are any, and then I'll be putting them through the benchmark paces.

Might be taking out my 9600 GT if the temps aren't good enough, and might just do that anyways to avoid power supply issues. Come on NVIDIA, release those 256 drivers so I can go back to using three monitors.

Meh, I caved.

My supplier didn't have any Crucial C300s in stock (and aren't expecting any for a month - Real time stock check my a$$) so I went with 2 x ASUS 480s.

The profile thing is killing me with ATI. Don't get me wrong, great cards but having the configurable profiles is a must for me.

Not trying to ruin the enthusiasm of a new purchase here, but I just don't understand the "profile" complaints. CCC will allow you to create profiles just fine. Now granted they're not already there when you open the control panel after installing a game for the first time, but it takes all of a minute to set one up and save it for future use.

If you want to use different graphics card settings in different circumstances, the profiles option might come in very handy. Click the Profiles button and select 'Profiles Manager' to bring up the Profiles Manager. You can save all your current Control Center settings under as many profiles as you like by entering a profile name in the box under 'Enter or select a profile name', and then click the Save button. However you can choose which particular settings are saved in the profile, and how they can be applied.

I do wish ATI would go ahead and create them, but I'm usually adjusting settings on them anyway--even when I have Nvidia. So it's never a seamless process.. at least for me since I customize the AA and texture quality settings on Nvidia's CP as well.

Enjoy your cards, Sly.

I have already run into a problem with Conan (CF/SLI) that can be solved through nHancer but cannot be fixed using ATI drivers. It's things like this that annoy me. I'm keeping the 5870s for my second box, because for the most part, I am highly satisfied with them.

I've always said that the lack of nHancer is a deal breaker for me and as much as I've tried to live without it, I can't

I hate those paper launch..
I think your best chance to get the card in Canada is pre-order from NCIX. That is how I got my HD 5970 it also saved me 8% Provincial Tax. NCIX usually gets the best supply on new stuff.

Newegg Canada doesn't even have the cards listed, always the same with new stock when in short supply and the US Newegg wont ship to Canada.

Since you said "I got dough to blow", you can get the GTX 480 shipped today from TigerDirect for only 686.99 CAD plus 5% to 13% sales tax, depending from where you order.

What a robbery, for some that might not know the CAD has about same value as the USD.
This morning currency exchange rate 686.99 CAD = 685.647 USD

Gotcha, Sly. I wasn't aware that you were referring to multi-GPU profiles instead of standard profiles.

Just curious.. what is the issue you're having?

A problem with DX10 advanced shadows flickering. Adjusting the SLI profile through nHancer alleviates it. There is nothing you can do about it except wait for a driver update in ATI's case

@ Heinz - Wow, Tigerdirect are gouging bigstyle, that's reprehensible. I ordered from them once and never again. Some of the worst Customer 'support' I've ever experienced.

Why would anyone pay close to $700 for a single GPU card is way beyond me. I honestly think $500 is pushing it, but $700 is nothing short of thievery.

Agreed and why they are pulling that is beyond me. You might as well grab a 5970 at that point. They are 'supposed' to be a reputable e-tailer but that is just plain theft IMHO.

IMO, NCIX is teh best e-tailer in Canaduh! I also think EVGA is teh best.
But, NCIX does not offer the EVGA's to pre-order. Only the Zotec, MSI, PNY and ASUS variants are available to pre-order. I would like the EVGA SC version (570$ CDN).

As for tiger*erect*, they do not provide real time stock. I am 100% sure their stock is below zero. Not to mention the outrageous price gouging for no stock items... And to top it off, they ship with UPS Canada

Does anyone know if ASUS are having supply problems (beyond the obvious) with regards to the 480?

I've yet to see anyone with an ASUS 480.

*EDIT*

No stock until May now as any incoming stock is allocated.

Guess I'll have to wait
