Wow after 2 hours checked how well Point of View Geforce GTX 480 selling at Ebuyer, before 9pm had 12 in stock and now it all gone.

Edit: 1 back in stock, probably after somebody decided to cancelled the order.

So I see you have got problem with avaibility too.

Worst thing is that I still see NO price drop of GF2xx series and HD58xx, price are even getting higher!

I say some EVGAs at Tigerdirect but chose not to bite because

1)The superclocked models were gone as soon as I went to my cart

2)They were overpricing by about $30


I think it was a good decision. I still would like to hear some feedback from members who've gone from 5870 crossfire to 480 SLI.

However, I would have totally gone for it already if not for the top model being sold out.

I prefer it. It's not night and day but I am happy to have my profiles back and I can play certain games (AoC, GTAIV among others) without graphical glitches etc.

They're both great cards and my 5870s are staying in my 2nd box because I really like them.

Waiting might not be the best move. Whether the shortages are just another BS viral rumour or an actuality I do not know but I do know that because word is getting out they are nowhere near as problematic as was originally claimed, people are starting to buy in droves.

Nvidia definitely gets the edge when it comes to rendering a game correctly out of the box. The fact that the 480's drivers are more polished than a 6 months old card is truly impressive.

I've got a couple of specific game questions. Please answer them if you can.

Can you max out all the sliders in GTA4 with a 480? How does it play? I was planning to get the new episodes but maybe I'll wait until I've upgraded. I haven't played GTA4 since I've switched to 5870s but it's disappointing that such an old game will still have bugs running on ATI hardware.

How is Just Cause 2? I saw from one guy's results that his pair of 480GTXes can't get above 40FPS in Concrete Jungle. It shouldn't be that low even with the Nvidia specific effects turned on.

I messed around with my 280s and 295s when one of the 5870s was RMA'ed. SLI seems broken in that game. I think it has to do with how CUDA is implemented in that game. The developers should have just stuck with PhysX in that game. I'm guessing that multi-GPU configs have a hard time splitting between physics and graphics.

GTA I can tell you is fine with everything maxed, I havent seen it go under 30 FPS (and that's worst case. RAM use is about 1203 IIRC), I'll take a look after lunch. I've seen the odd flickering shadow but it is not widespread and annoying like it is on CF.

Just did Dark Tower and it pinned 60 (Vsync on again).

Concrete Jungle had an average of 50 (It hit 60 but the average was 50) FPS. I'm trying to get screenshot I took up but it won't 'copy and paste'.

Thanks for the feedback. Those JC2 results are looking much better. Did Nvidia fix SLI issues with a recent update? I'm hopeful that they can get it to a constant 60fps eventually with a 480 SLI config. That really is how well it should run on 2 480s, even with all the optional NV eye candy turned on.

You're right, I'm the only person with a 480 who has said what I've said. Never mind the fact that there are multiple 480 users on this very forum who have reported the same results.

Seriously, my passion had less to do with the video card and more to do with the fact that all I've done is report my actual findings and some jagoff comes along and says that I'm lying.

You don't own the card, you've never even used one, so wtf do you know about what the end users are actually seeing?

These 480's would have been back on the UPS truck if they had been running at the temps that some reviewers were getting.

My Tri Sli gtx 470's get 70+ everything maxed and aa set at x16csaa. and in precision point it shows all cards same temp so tri sli working great.
