That's according to Chinese website Expreview.com, whose "reliable sources" claim a toned-down Fermi product dubbed the GeForce GTX 460 will debut on June 1st.

Take the date with a pinch of salt, but it doesn't take a reliable source to speculate that NVIDIA's next Fermi derivative will launch at COMPUTEX - which just so happens to run from June 1st to June 5th.

What's potentially interesting is that the card is said to utilise the same PCB as the GTX 470, but features 1GB of GDDR5 memory connected via a 256-bit bus and presumably cuts across the board.

Putting our speculation hats on, we're going to attempt to take an educated guess at potential specifications.

Something like the above seems feasible, and the suggested specification would put the card up against AMD's ATI Radeon HD 5850.

Question is, could a GeForce GTX 460 match the Radeon HD 5850's 225 asking price?
Hmmm...

June 1th, I wonder if it would be another paper launch?

Coming June 1

According to expreview.com
, Nvidia will introduce another Fermi iteration on June 1.

The card, designated GTX 460, will take on AMD's HD 5850 both in terms of price and performance. It will pack 1GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit bus, but there is still no info on the possible clocks or the number of shaders.

Nvidia's planned GTS 450 is rumoured to feature 192 shaders, while the GTX 470 has 448, so the new card should fit somewhere in between, which leaves a lot of room for speculation. We can only guesstimate that it will end up around 400 mark. (416, 384, take your pick. sub.ed.)

Nvidia will let partners mess around with the design, s a lot of non-reference cards can be expected. More here.
Nvidia already has 470 to take on HD 5850, well except for the price, heat, noise and probably overclocking value.

Now if this rumored GTX 460 would solve some off the above it would compete more against the GTX 470 if not actually kill it.

Lets not forget that the original MSRP for the HD 4850 was $259, so ATI can most likely drop the price if needed. Anyway good news for the consumer if true.

Sorry didn't check the auto news feed, anyway it's more a rumor than news. The source is Chinese website Expreview.com in past not always right about the news.

Very little info about the product but very specific about the date. HEXUS and And Fudzilla speculating about some more details using the Expreview as source.

A 460 might do alright if they get the clock speed on the memory up a bit. Will have to be at least 4GHz with a 256-bit bus to compete with 5850. At 3.4GHz it would probably fall behind to almost 5830 levels. That's just my speculation though, hopefully with a narrower bus it will be easy to clock the memory up a bit.

Either that or they go with a yet to be seen in-between shader/rop count and bus width.

If they want to improve their yields they need to double up on interconnects i think that is what AMD did. Until they do that the chip will just draw too much power and make too much heat. I been thinking of going amd but they don't have custom resolutions which I need to use. Just stick with my 9800gtx+ for now.
