All I did was follow Page 6 and 7 in that guide. It made a huge difference in performance between when I got it and now.

I also made sure that the drive is in AHCI mode in the BIOS, and I enabled TRIM in Windows. Those are probably the most crucial items to an SSD's performance. Don't expect those items to make a difference immediately. I enabled those very shortly after I installed the SSD for the first time, and I didn't see a tangible performance increase for a couple weeks. Supposedly, once Windows does garbage collection on the SSD (using TRIM), it speeds up the SSD nicely. However, you can't tell it when to do that garbage collection. That's decided by the SSD/OS... sorta sucks.

If you do all that stuff, the performance will happen. Just don't expect it to be a lot quicker at first. It takes time. SSD's are strange beasts.

Once everything is optimized, hold on to your butts... these things are fast!!!

I just ordered a OCZ Vertex 2 "25nm Edition" 160GB SSD.

Are these good?

You can tell i was drunk last night lol.

Anyway ....

Is there anything i should know about these SSD's before i install it? .... I mean anything i should change in the BIOS?

I'm aware there's a firmware update, Ive downloaded that ready to update before i install windows onto it.

Oh another thing, I do plan in the future getting another of these drivers. If i wanted to put them in raid 0 could i do that without a format? I mean could i just add the other via raid 0 and they would just merge to make on big ass 320 SSD?

EDIT: Oh sorry that what i meant to ask ..... How do you guys manage your installs on the smaller drives? I mean i plan to install Win7 onto this SSD and make the 500GB a pure storage drive ... What about all the programs, Games etc? .... I could fill a 160GB drive in 30 mins lol.

Ok so this is how im gonna do this when it arrives.

Obviously install the SSD, Enable AHCI in the BIOS, Install Win7 x64bits, Once installed update to the latest v1.24 firmware(if its not latest)then enable TRIM(if its not already enabled).

Does this sound about right?

I have page file enabled, but you should set it to another Hard Drive other than the SSD. While it would be quick for that, it would use a lot of read/writes, and thus lower the life expectancy on your SSD.

But there's no reason to have it for an SSD. The response/seek time is instantaneous. An index is useless.
