Err... wait. You're planning to run a GTX 470 on a 500W power supply?

I thought that probably would have been alright. Especially considering he is already running an 8800GTX. I could be wrong though as I haven't taken to much notice of the power requirements for the 470.

Candle, if you're going to make a new thread for everything you do, and not use the threads that folks are already using/posting in, at least make the title relevant to what kind of information you're looking for. You've been here long enough, I figured you'd have that down by now.

I don't know... it depends what kind of power supply it is.

An 8800GTX is a pretty power hungry card, but the 470 is definitely going to be even more of a power hog.

There aren't too many 500W PSUs out there that meet the 12v recommendations for cards like these.

NVIDIA is recommending minimum 550W (select "Specifications"). I say go 850W since you need new one anyway, will last you longer also good to have some spare for little CPU & GPU OC and future system upgrades.

That is very true. If it is a high quality, he could be alright.

I think a corsair 750watt should be plenty and you could run your 8800GTX for Phys-x ,because the 8800GTX is not going to draw full power just running it as a phys-x card.

Amps guys, it's all about the amps. As long as the PSU can supply at least 10A through each 6 pin plug he should be OK.

I don't think one should ignore NVIDIA recommending minimum 550W for average system.

Guru3D is more specific about it
Quote:
GeForce GTX 470
* On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit. We recommend at least 35 Amps in total available on the +12 volts rails (accumulated).

I have 30amps on the 12v its an Ultra, I ran an 8800GTS 640 and my 8800GS off of this thing just fine lol. Not really expecting a big hassel with it, as my buddy that had the PSU before was running his GTX275 and a 9800GTX off it and using a molex to PCIe for the 9800GTX for both molex and it ran fine for him. If I do get any problems with it though ill upgrade the PSU but I'm not expecting a headache.
