Well I reinstalled and patched to 1.5, then tested one of the bridges at high settings with the distance bars at 40... got 30-35fps. Installed patch 1.6 and got 20-25fps, plus a weird dip to the teens.

So something is definitely up with the new shadow system and my rig. It was the same exact area, same exact settings.

The game is surprisingly playable at low fps as it was designed for it, the console versions average mid-20s which means as many dips below that as above, but it still burns to lose fps on shadows I thought were fine before.

Thanks, so it's the patch.
This sucks, I was looking forward to the 2 dlc episodes. Not playing them at that framerate

So, how many "episodes" are available for PC?

I only play GTAIV at minimum graphics settings anyway so I can kill cars full of suckers attempting a high speed drive-by...

Hoping for a driver to fix this but not holding out much hope.

I haven't played GTA4 in a while so the update ought to be nice. I just hope that it is a little more playable graphics wise.

Are you thinking of Chinatown Wars? That was portable only.

Once you swallow your pride and run these at a good FPS they really shine as games. Ballad of Gay Tony is fun as hell.
