Default Fedora 12 2.6.32 Black Screen

Summary: Updating to current kernels (2.6.32.9, 2.6.32.11, 2.6.32.x) results in black screen on system. Reverting to older kernel (2.6.31.12, 2.6.31.x) and reinstalling driver works fine.

Details:

System: Thinkpad W700 with Quadro 3700.
Distribution: Fedora 12 x86_64
Driver: 195.36.15

When running on older kernel (2.6.31.x) the system functions fine including accelerated graphics, suspend/resume, etc. with 195.36.15.

Select and boot to latest kernel (currently 2.6.32.11) and reinstall 195.36.15 (or 195.30 or 190.53) and system seems to start X and then the console is unresponsive (cannot kill X, cannot switch to consoles). I can ssh into system and access remotely.

Attached is the bug report from the 2.6.32 kernel boot but only in runlevel 3 without X started.

Thank you for your assistance - please holler on how I can help!

Does passing intel_iommu=off to the kernel command line work? (With virt enabled; virt itself should not cause any issues the iommu can and probably does in your case).

Adding iommu=soft at the end of /boot/grub/grub.conf should work as well

No, you just can't pass PCI devices directly to the VM (which I doubt you are doing anyway).

Which does exactly the same. (In fact intel_iommu=igfx_off should be enough; which only disables the IOMMU for the graphics device).

Had the same problem. I have a dell precision M4400 with a Nvidia 770M. Spent many hours at init 3 trying to figure out why my 3d drivers from rpmfusion weren't working. Checked lots of log filesTurned off virtualization support in bios (Intel) and BAM! Black Screen Gone - Nvidia 3D acceleration hello.

I will attempt to try turning on virt support again in the bios and using the command mentioned above.
