Finally.. someone willing to push the envelope. Good rundown over on Hardware.info. Seems like they go back and forth. 5970 CFX wins some; 480 Tri-SLI wins others. Tri-Xfire also performs really well. Only thing I didn't like was they only OC'd the i7 to 3.4GHz which I'm almost certain held back Quadfire a bit.

You guys will be surprised how well the HX1000 does with 3x480...you just cant plug in both CPU 8 pins.

That is totally ridiculous running the i7920 at only 3.4. All of those multi GPU setups would be so CPU limited its not funny. The might as well have run those benchmarks on a Core 2 Duo.

Tri-tire 5870's looks like it wins the day for frames and power consumption.
