Question Support for GT 330M (e.g. in Sony Vaio VPCF115FM, model PCG-81114L) coming soon?

Using the known trick to export the EDID data from windows, I managed to setup the nvidia driver with the GT 330M of my Sony Vaio VPCF115FM. There are still (at least) two issues:
  • switching to text console does not set the video mode correctly (grey screen)
  • the driver hangs sometimes, causing the desktop to hang, kwin to eat 100 % (unkillable) and even via network, no clean shutdown is possible

Of course, this has to be expected (if unsupported). Is there a roadmap or estimate, when official support will come to the GT 330M?

Regards,

eijk

I have this same model laptop. You can work around the desktop freeze problem by setting PowerMizer to "Prefer Maximum Performance" in nVidia X Server Settings. This of course causes the laptop to run a bit hotter and reduces battery life, but has been fairly stable for me.

When it does hang, you should be able to use the magic SysRq key to sync your drive and reboot.

I hope this card gets supported soon.

I also have a 330m and I've been unable to get sound output through HDMI... aplay -l (in ubuntu) only indicates an analog, intel sound card and not the HDMI card that should be associated with nvidia (which hwinfo --short does see). I compiled and installed the latest alsa drivers, and am using the 190 drivers with an EDID I extracted in windows.

I can't find a solution to this problem, does anyone have any more information?

I may be purchasing a laptop with this GPU, but I'm waiting until I see the 330m listed in the supported hardware.

Right now it's not...

mpcd, thanks for the workaround! No crashes anymore!

You don't need to turn off powermiser with the 195 drivers now, it works as it should. You need to specify the EDID of the monitor through the XOrg config still though, but at least you don't have to export it in Windows anymore (you specify the /proc/etc/etc/) location of it.

HDMI out doesn't seem to work yet though.

HDMI to my LCD works fine. Make sure you use the "ConnectedMonitor" in your screen section.

Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "0"
    Option "metamodes" "nvidia-auto-select +0+0"
    Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0,DFP-1,CRT"
    Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/sonyedid.bin"
    SubSection "Display"
        Depth 24
    EndSubSection
EndSection
