Default Activision splits Zampella and West's bonuses among IW staff

Quote:
We wonder if long time Official Xbox Magazine editor and brief (one issue) editor of the official World of Warcraft magazine, Dan Amrich is enjoying his current job. As community manager for Activision Blizzard, Amrich, under the tag "One of Swords" is kind of functioning as an online fixer of sorts at present, alongside blogging, podcasting and bumping up numbers on that all important twitter account.

And when it comes to fixing and Activision, you don't have to stroll too far to come to Destination Court - the Infinity Ward saga. Amrich has been posting on the Facebook page "Gamers against Bobby Kotick and Activision", putting across the company's perspective. Well, his perspective.

There's a few quotable comments made by Amrich in there, but this one takes the cake - word that bonuses meant to have accrued to ex-Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West will be going to current Infinity Ward staff:
Quote:
"Vince and Jason had very large bonuses; those bonuses are being redistributed to everybody else, to the people who did not allegedly attempt to steal company secrets. Activision is not pocketing that bonus money; it’s still going to the people who work at IW. But you have to work at IW to get it, see?"
Quote:
Amrich is pragmatic enough to think the IW departures haven't stopped yet. He just is confused as to why:
Quote:
"More people will probably go too, looking for new situations. Maybe they will join Respawn, maybe not. I'm confused, because by leaving, they are giving up their bonus -- and the more people that leave, the bigger the bonus gets for the people who stay."
Quote:
Amrich also has some advice for his boss, Bobby Kotick, which amounts to "don't mouth off as much." He also adds he wouldn't have charged as much for Modern Warfare 2's DLC.

You can't blame a man for trying, but maybe it's efforts like this which lead Infinity Ward to the view their PR destiny was best left in their own hands.

One thing's for sure - he's certainly singing for his supper now.

Sounds like bribes to try and keep at least some staff for COD:MW3.

Hope Imbroglio is right.

The key developers who recently left IW have joined Respawn Ent. with Vince and West. Just read the article at gamespot. EA is also aiding them in getting their company up and running. They are now looking for a new location near Infinity Ward so no one has to relocate.

What company secrets could they be trying to steal? Its not like they wrote some magical code or something.

That and the (sad) fact every (or many, at least) big company tends to behave like a cult (a.k.a. your life belong to us) made for this rotten case, I guess. Now go swallow your own pissed cake, Activision ¬¬

From my take on this, IW had it rather well under Activision.

When I visited for the last three titles, everyone was happy they where on their own and not being run by Activision (day to day operations).

Vince and Jason, where a little too spoiled and seemed to want to let Activision know who's boss. Unfortunately, Vince and Jason forgot Activision owned them and not the other way around.

They also forgot that both of them along with Grant Colier sold the company and IP to Activision right after CoD 1. They had no right to go shopping things around. Especially before your bonus payout. Which for those people who don't have a clue, is usually after a full quarter upon release of your title.

Jason and Vince where both arrogant, stupid and very foolish to do what they did.

Granted Activision will milk the franchise to the ground, but if they(Vince and Jason) where worried about that, they shouldn't have sold the rights in the first place.

Activision sent goons to the company without any information to the employees. No surprise they are now leaving the company. If Activision had handled it a bit differently, they might have been able to keep most of the employees, but they went for the brute force method to show them who's boss and it didn't really work well in this case.

A source close to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer just informed me that a "bunch of bouncer-types" just showed up outside of the Infinity Ward offices unannounced. When approached by employees, the non-uniformed "bouncers" were unwilling to disclose why they were there.

"Everyone is on edge," said my source.

Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West reportedly met with Activision this morning and have not been seen by Infinity Ward staff members since. My source did not delve into specifics, but described the relationship between Infinity Ward and Activision lately as "tense."

The mood around the Infinity Ward offices is currently described as "freaked out" and "confused."
But maybe some of the programmers like to work for a company that behaves like mafia and stays.
