Default Official BRINK Feedback Thread

Brink (video game)

Brink is a FPS using a heavily modified id tech 4 engine. From the screen shots and videos alone, the modified id tech 4 engine looks a lot like the id tech 5 engine used in RAGE.

Brink will be available on Steam with VAC and achievements, and so on.

There's some videos of gameplay footage on youtube. I have to say...I'm impressed. Splash Damage really outdid themselves, especially with overhauling the id tech 4 engine into id tech 5 territory.

Any thoughts?

Seems like a good concept and I like all of the customization options supposedly in... except you apparently can't create a female character :\. Which doesn't make much sense as they are talking about how customizable it will be.

It does look like Rage! Wow, iD's been hard at work . . .

Main goal with id Tech 5 was to make an engine, that doesn't need to be ported and works on every platform at 60fps with the same visuals, iirc. If you take into account how big some areas will be and the use of Mega texture, then I think it's rather impressive.

I love the movement in this game and how they've implemented it into controls. This is one of the major areas that current games, especially FPS lack. This is just another step forward from Mirrors Edge. The art direction on the levels is also spectacular.

The one thing I don't like is how all the characters have that Unreal Tournament 2k3 look to them. It's pretty damn cliche by now...

If id tech 5 doesn't have OpenGL 4 and hardware tessellation, it will be embarrassing.

There is nothing in the images that would support your theory about hardware tesselation.
The game does look good and mega/virtual texturing seems to work nicely in this game.

Huh, where does it say it's DX11 and uses tesselation? Why would they use idtech 4 if they were going to modify it that much? Would be cool if they did manage to though I guess.

The brink cinematic video looks amazing but I'm guessing it will look nothing like that when we get it

Looks great, I enjoyed mirrors edge immensely it was one of a kind. this on the other hand looks interesting, and since its from bethesda it will most likely have some RPG elements in there too.

I think the Tech 4 engine is showing lots of potential already. It will be interesting how this engine compares to Mirrors Edges as it looked close to photorealistic at times.

I'm looking forward to it.
