Default Hard-Lockup with vdpau && (opengl || qt)

Hi,

Some Info's:

KDE: 4.4.3
xserver-xorg-core: 1.7.7-1
Driver: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 195.36.(8-24)
Kernel: 2.6.33.3
Desktop: CRT: 1920x1080_60 +0+0, DFP-0: 1680x1050_60 +1920+0
Composite OFF

I am have this hard lock since about 4 weeks, and I tried to catch some information before I post here.
Every time I watch TV with VDPAU (which I prefer) and an OpenGL app is somewhere else on desktop(or a QT application?) my pc locks up totally and I cannot even ssh into it. I think this happened too while watching TV with Xv accleration.

Last time this happened pretty much files were corrupted. I had too "reinstall" all libraries. I don't know what to do now, should I Strace Xorg every time I start it?

I now use Xv without any opengl apps, and hope that this is not gonna happen again.

I appreciate any help.

Regards,
Sascha Zielinski

hm, ok
I played 1h of BBC H264 program just now with glxgears at backgroung (I dont have any QT based application), with VDPAU decoding, composite enabled, COMPIZ running under GNOME enviroment, with my connection fully utilised by downloading, with CONKY displaing animated 5fps Cairo 2D graphics under lua wrapper and no lockup I've had.

PS: ok, I found that I have QT4 Designer so I ran it in background along with glxgears and watched another 1h H264 video with VDPAU decoding and no lockups I've had.

hard to tell
There is another thread here where people says that this lokups are a problem with ION based unit but my unit works fine so hard to tell
Maybe you should monitor that thread - maybe solution for ION unit will work for you too.

I just sumarize what I experienced, to sort some things out which does potentially work:

I watched 1 bluray and massive TV recordings so far and nothing happend. System runs stable(uptime: 13:32:27 up 3 days, load average: 1.28, 1.73, 1.84) as it does a while ago, but I tried to not open any 3d applications other than MythTV(running with opengl), or any QT applications. I attached my whole `ps -aux` output and a new bug report.

Regards Sascha

neosmatrix: Your bug report includes X logs that show a variety of different GPUs. On which GPU(s) did you experience this problem?

It's possible this is related to http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...=150725&page=3

NVIDIA GPU GeForce GT 220 (GT216) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
This is the only Graphicscard I've installed and the only one which makes trouble, had a 8600gt 512 MB before and never had any problem with it.
I wonder where you saw a second one, sorry if my config files look a bit weird

Regards,
Sascha

Last night the same happend again, the pc locks up and I cannot do anythingm no ssh, no numlock led on keyboard. I was exited live-tv in Mythtv while this happend and I had the apps which are in the txt I posted opened + xvnc4viever + amarok played musik from stream.

I also noticed that sometimes my screen gets corrupted (see screenshot), I can switch to console (ctrl + alt + fX) and back to x-server that the errors go away. Could this have something to do with the lock up ?

Sascha

EDIT: Seems this has been fixed since 256.44 . No more lookup's since this version.
