Default [256.25 7600GT agp] Unable to play xv video

When I try to play a video file with xv output, I only get a black window with many xv error messages (unable to allocate resources).
Works with 195.36.24

There's a regression in 256.25 that affects AGP systems such as yours. The attached patch fixes that regression and may help with your problem.

I still get:
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

With latest 256.29 - also the patch seems to be already applied.
There must be something else casung this, reverting back to latest stable (195.36.24) fixes the problem.

kriko, Can you confirm that you're using Xv output not XvMC? I don't see any obvious changes in the code related to Xv that could have caused this.

Yes, from mplayer config:
vo = "xv"

and from mplayer log, confirming that is using xv:
VO: [xv] 624x352 => 624x352 Planar YV12

kriko, A few more questions:

1) Does this happen on any/all video clips, or just the 624x352 clip?
2) Do you have any non-AGP systems; does the same issue happen there?
3) Can you try running just a bare X server with no desktop environment etc.; just running X and mplayer. Does the issue happen there? This might indicate that you really are simply running out of video RAM.

Thanks.

I've got the same problem on different setup, now with a 6600GT agp card.
Video screen is blank and mplayer is showing same errors as mentioned above.
Bug report attached.

I could not reproduce this problem using a GeForce GT 6200 AGP using either 256.29 or the latest internal 256.* build.

Does the problem go away if you use a much smaller screen resolution, such as 1024x768?

Are you using a compositing manager (desktop effects). Does the problem go away if you disable it?

If you remove (or comment out) the following lines from your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, does the problem go away:

Option "HWCursor" "0x84d33a8"
Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
Option "OnDemandVBlankInterrupts" "true"
Option "Coolbits" "1

Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0660
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "on"
EndSection

Thanks.

setting smaller resolution:
doesn't help

disabling effects:
doesn't help

commenting out mentioned lines/sections:
doesn't help

removing xorg.conf and let X do autodetection:
doesn't help either

reverting back to stable driver works.

:/

Hmm. Not much to go on. Perhaps you can try running the "xvinfo" and "xvattr" programs with each driver and posting the results here. If either of those programs also gets a BadAlloc, it'd be useful if you could debug it and find out which API is failing.

Those outputs are completely identical.
Any other clues - were there changes in some memory allocation code...
