That's where it's much nicer to have your own media. Just make an image of the disc and save all of the patches into a folder. I can reinstall any game and patch it faster than you can even install from the disc.

Here is a good question. Is there anyway to backup your steam folder before you reinstall so you don't have to download anything? Wondering if you just copy that folder if steam will pick back up after a reinstall.

yes, backup the steamapps folder. Or use the backup within Steam and it will backup the games, they are easily reinstalled then.

Hmm that's definitely useful. Because rather than having to patch your games they should remain patched. The backup wizard seems to be pretty slow, so I'd just copy the folder manually. It must be doing a lot of compression.

Just tested offline mode. That's at least better then Ubisoft for sure. You can still actually play your games if your internet goes down.

D2D is junk. owning the cd is slow. steam all the way. i dont even think i buy a game if its not on steam anymore. even if its good. i would just wait till steam gets it.

I did the same thing and sold my Crysis Maximum disc versions before realizing they did this. That was quite the piss off.

Yup.

There are other Steam annoyances with some games, like ones still missing the latest patch which stops you from playing multi, or games that have bonus content that does not work on the Steam version. Sometimes you don't want the latest patch for one reason or another and Steam forces it on you.

It's the classic more control versus more automation conflict.
