Default Redhat 9 & FX5200 == no go :-(

Hi there,

I've just install Redhat 9 and out of the box it doesn't see my GeforceFX 5200 (thinks its a generic card with 128Mb), but it also won't even run in VGA mode just locks up the screen, I can switch to a text console.

Any ideas ?

Hardware is :

Gigabyte 875P chipset GA-8IK1100 motherboard
Pentium 4 HT 2.4Ghz
512Mb RAM (2 * DDR400)
GeforceFX 5200 128Mb
Redhat 9

Regards

Mark

Default I have sort of the same problem

I can get into X (KDE) but as soon as I open a couple of windows the whole PC locks and I have to pull the plug.

I have the new drivers installed and after search the whole net I think I have the correct XF86Config settings.

I have also noticed that Linux sees the PCI Card as a Nvidia but it says unknown device next to it.

Any ideas anyone?????

Cheers

Mark Smith: accelerated support for NVIDIA cards is not provided by Red Hat. Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-4496.html for a driver.

medic6666: It says "unknown" because your kernel hasn't yet been updated with the correct pci id information. This is a harmless error. Do you have RenderAccel enabled?

Default From what I understand

this is set by default.

I have now added
option "RenderAccel" "0"
option "NvAGP" "0"

to my XF86Config file. The card is the PCI one so I assumed the AGP is not needed anyway.

Have read the Readme but what does the RenderAccel actually do?

Bit confused... :S

Cheers
