Right now, I have two 285 GTX in SLI. I am thinking about getting one GTX 480. What are the benefits? What will I be loosing/gaining by getting one 480?
Thanks in advance for your opinions. |

You would get DX11 in Metro 2033 - it's absolutely wicked.
![]() I would say DX11 is worth it, and if you are having any multi GPU issues, those will be gone and your 285s ought to pay for a large chunk of the 480. The Fermi is probably the best gpu I've owned yet. Very happy with it. |

what you will gain?
lower temp, lower power consumption. DX11, single gpu benefits what you will loose? multi-gpu scaling issues

I agree.
Power consumption and heat will probably drop a little, while performance might actually increase some. I honestly don't think the 480 will be night and day faster than dual 280's... but it'll be faster none the less while consuming less power and generating less heat. And as Grey mentioned- selling your 280s should offset the cost of the 480 quite nicely. ![]() |

Even one GTX 480 SC is slower than two GTX 285 FTW. DX11 is nice tho.

I've read somewhere that one 480 is slightly slower than 2x285's...but I really won't see much of that. I'm looking to get rid of both cards and go with one higher end card. SLI is nice, but I really don't think I need it for the games that I play.

Read a few reviews Doc. Unless you're going the frame rate junkie route - I really think a single GTX 480 will give you a better overall experience.
Have I mentioned metro 2033? Excellent showcase for what's to come with DX11. It's just jaw dropping in places. |

but you never will have to worry about GPU load being equal on both GPUs, never will have to worry if driver has proper multi-gpu profile
