Default Oldest supported Xorg/x11-server release in current drivers?

What is the oldest Xorg release that the current NVidia drivers support?

I am going back to Xorg-server 1.2 (Xorg 7.2) and need to re-base from there. The thing will be in a modern distribution and 2.6.31.1x kernel, it's just the Xorg server (with minimal non-video drivers) and xterm that I need to keep back.

The driver works fine on Xorg 1.4.1 here.

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...uirements.html

Theoretically, the driver supports all the way back to XFree86 4.0.1. In practice, you may have better luck with XFree86 4.1 or 4.2. xorg-server 1.2 is very new compared to that.

Thank you. That's good news. It turns out that the Xorg sources are not really liking being relocated at compile time. I might want to try a chroot here.

Another question: is the kernel module the same as long as kernel and NVidia driver package are the same? In other words, if I had one Xorg7.4 and one Xorg7.2 tree, each with the NVidia drivers on top, I could switch between them without reinstalling the drivers, right?
