I have a feeling enabling this may not necessarily brick the card but is likely to cause many graphical glitches since my guess is the features were disabled through product binning and they weren't just disabled for fun.

Cards don't brick in this situation unless you have no integrated GPU or don't have another PCIE slot and card. If a BIOS flash fails, you reflash to the previous BIOS, it's not that big of a thing. Must be some of you weren't around during the 5900/6800 days?

If its all in the BIOS, it makes you wonder if a GTX 480 could unlock all 512 shaders in a similar fashion.

It's not all about the BIOS. It's just in the case of the GTX 465 that they are disabled via BIOS.
I have heard nvidia normally disables features through software storage separate from the bios that is hard locked. Though some have said only 480 cores are visible on the GTX 480 so maybe they were laser cut? Either way nvidia saw it fit to cut those 32 cores to maximize performance. I believe it was said that removing those cores allowed them to set the voltage in a way that they were able to squeeze out some extra performance. |

It's not like they can take chips binned as 465's and do this themselves. They'd lose a ton of money on RMA's. |

After reading a few posts I can tell that VERY few 465s can be unlocked. There's a lot going against this. There are two ways the card can be unlocked. One through the Asus tool which only unlocks the Stream Processors and another by flashing the card with a 470 BIOS (this unlocks everything). However here are the hurdles: some (most?) 465s have the stream processors disabled not through the BIOS but through other means so the tool fails. Apparently there were a few 465s out there that were basically disabled 470s and even had the full amount of ram modules, TMUs, and ROPs (I heard Point of View was the manufacturer that had some of these). Obviously these are even more rare.
