Default Brightness on 330M - Sony Vaio z11z9 notebook does not work even with 2.6.35-rc3

Brightness does not work on my Sony Vaio z11z9 notebook with 256.35 driver on all kernels including the latest one 2.6.35-rc3. I can modify brightness using 'echo -n', but it does not reflect any visible changes. I'm still using workaround by modifying green-red-blue colors using nvidia tool - 'nvidia-settings -l'. The same sort of things happened with my Sony Vaio TZ1 notebook. But it was fixed using linux NV driver instead of NVIDIA one.

Could you please provide me with any description why it happens for all new video cards and when do you fix this sort of things at all?

It is possible to force the NVIDIA driver to control the backlight by adding
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

to the "Devices" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf

kozzzlov,

I am currently using the latest 256.35 driver on a 2.6.35 rc3 kernel with no problems at all, brightness works just fine for me. As does powermizer and all other functions.

It also worked just fine for me on kernels 2.6.31 and 33.

This is with a Toshiba laptop with the 330 nvidia card.

So I can assure you it does work.

Follow the instructions the developers have posted so you can get some help with your problem.
