Sorry about the subject... I couldn't really come up with a decent one.
Now... the thing is, I'm desparately in need of cash. A solution to this is to flog me 9800 Pro, which I have been offered £260 for. Now, the replacement for it would be a reference FX5800, which I picked up on Ebay a while back (more a novelty purchase at the time) I'd like to gather opinion as to how this would perform in me rig (spec in sig), and whether it would be a massive drop off in performance. I'm not a massively hardcore PC gamer, most games I run at 1024x768 with some eye candy on (usually 4xaa and 4xaf with the 9800) Keeping the 9800 isn't really an option as I need cash (bills to pay, etc), so any feedback on 5800 would be appreciated.

5800 should do fine, but you might have to turn AA to 2x or 0x for some games.

You tell us! You're the one with the 5800 just collecting dust.
![]() Pop it in your case and test it out. If it's sufficient (I think it will be) then the decision is made for you. Now it's my turn. I'm thirsty...should I walk all the way to the kitchen for a drink, or just lick the condensation off the nearby window? ![]() |

The regular an't that bad of a card although selling a Radeon 9800Pro for a regular FX5800 doe sound odd, how much can you pick up a FX5800 for like the cheapest i have seen is £227 and thats for the ASUS dust blower
The other regular cards come standard cooling.

Yeah, id pay the bills first, defiantly a good idea. espically if this is a credit card bill, they are Evil!!!!
since you play games at 1024x768, you should have no probelm with any current games, and hl2 will still work fine. Id say use your 5800 and when you get some money buy a new card thats out.

You'll have no problem with the card. The REAL performance difference with the other better cards starts to show at 1280x1024 and above, with 4xAA/8xAF. I have it and I play all my games at 1280x1024 with 4xAA/8xAF, with no slowdowns or stuttering.I get 127FPS on the Antalus benchmark in UT2K3, at the above settings. It is a downgrade from your current card but not one you'll notice in your current gaming resolution. Unless you turn the res to 1600x1200 with AA/AF, that card is among the best, difference is there, but you cannot tell, we're talking peanuts.

Seriously... thanks for the help, guys. I'm gonna pop the 9800 Pro to its new owner tomorrow, and then install the 5800. Again, many thanks... I know I'm a relative n00b (when it comes to the FX, at least), that's why I was just wanting to gather opinions from other 5800 owners. And yes, it's a credit card bill... can't avoid paying them.
