Hope they will cancel GFWL and transfer to Steam, using Steam cloud and the community features, automatic patching etc.

And they should ****ing revive the Age of Empires, Rise of Nations and the Mechwarrior series. I haven't even played a single Mechwarrior game. Damn.

No, Valve threw them a bone. That's about it.

Well, according to an internal Q&A at Microsoft, more PC support IS coming.

I don't see that as an indication of greater support coming for gaming on windows 7. to me that just reads as typical marketing noise. All it says is that right now, without anything changing, windows is already a "super-duper" gaming platform and it's "getting even better because we are releasing fable 3".

It sounds to me like they are trying to get as much milage as possible out of one, (one!) "core" game.

The fact that they need to talk about facebook games shows that they are just trying to leverage the existing level of suppport and make it sound greater than it really is.

I'm suprised that you would think otherwise.

Well, there's recently this to consider.

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...2036703891.htm

killing off a very profitable and thriving part of your pc business (windows gaming) in favour of an 8.6 BILLION dollar console and mobile blackhole....

Some investors would rather see Microsoft concentrate on its PC and corporate software where operating profit margins reach as high as 72% versus just 10% in its Entertainment & Devices unit.
But nah, it's prolly more marketing doublespeak.

MS makes all its money from Windows and other PC apps. While I think the Xbox has been making a profit for a couple years now it is still so far in the hole they might never climb out again and their other entertainment divisions still lose money. I bet Kinect loses money.

They need to take the PC back by the balls and hold on to it. That means a LOT more than gaming, but it is a part of it.
I agree. I frequent the teamxbox forums and there are many Mac users there who have swung to Valve's side of the fence since Mac support was implemented. There are also some who are considering to get the PS3 because its open platform followed by Valve's Steamworks. There are many Valve fanboys in those forums and they were just ripping on MS for not jump on to this.

Very good article and exactly the sort of thing I have been reading for a while now. With that and the exist of key entertainment division people, I think a sea change is in the works if Kinect doesn't light the world on fire.

I hope kinect fails. In all honesty, I was more interested in the Sony Move and the games with it. The Sorcerer game looked like a lot of fun. It would be awesome playing an RPG with Move.

I think Microsoft can, good publicity and one game sold on either X360 or PC is a profit for Microsoft and not for Sony.
