Eh.. I was planning on snagging this when it hit steam but it looks like I'll:

A - wait to see how long it takes them to fix this mess

and

B - read a few reviews then decide if I want to still give it a whirl (as I've enjoyed several games that got bad reviews) or wait till it hits the bargain bin.

See, I sometimes have caught myself thinking this but then I fire up games like arkham asylum or mass effect 2 and am reminded that the engine is exceptional... unlike most of the art teams responsible for working with the engine.

You know how some Unreal Engine 3 games have textures that fade in slowly after the level loads? Most on PC load the textures so fast you don't notice, but on console you see them slowly pop-in as you start the level.

Singularity apparently has a problem where sometimes they do not load in at all on PC, some kind of glitch. It is fixable by changing the streaming settings, but you have to hex edit the exe and another file to do it. www.download.com should have a bunch of free hex editors.

Wow lucky me - was just about to click the order button when I switched to nvnews and saw this thread. This really sucks - been looking forward to this game, but not gonna spend a dime and a crappy port.

Well it's easily fixable and they will surely patch it and word around the street is that it's a Doom/Half-Life esque old school FPS that is otherwise very polished, so... you might be missing out there.

For those who have the game already, what is the executable name? Singularity.exe?

The whole texture streaming thing was to alleviate load times for levels because developers assumed gamers all had severe ADD and that if a game took more than a few seconds to load we would lose interest and find something else to do like pick our noses or something. Its also catering to consoles that have to load the game from slow disc drives or hard drives and have low amounts of VRAM to work with for textures.

It's all understandable and whatnot, but what's not acceptable is that Raven let this issue slip through QA and not even allow end users to delve into ini files to fix it themselves. What happened Raven? You used to be cool.
