Cool Desktop Size

I am trying to use ubuntu linux with a geoforce 9500 gs graphics card into a hd flatscreen monitor with the HDMI output. When I do this with windows, I need to use control panel screen resize in the hdmi tv mode. Icannot find a similar tool in linux. The result is that I can't see what is happening ib the top or bottom of the desktop, making it hard to learn how to use Linux. What can I do?

It sounds like you're seeing the results of overscan on your TV, and you're looking for the functionality provided by the "Overscan Compensation" slider in nvidia-settings.

A better option would be to disable overscan on your TV, if it's possible.
