Default Firefox 4.01 Beta

Beta candidate is available for Download.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...1/win32/en-US/

Again, download at your own risk.

Thanks to Johnny for the first post that I saw

http://www.osnn.net/windows-applicat...-download.html

I am using it now, I still wish they would do a unified address bar and have a default option for speed-dial instead of having to stick extensions in there.

Not bad, I agree. A unified bar and speed dial would be nice.

Not sure if it will replace Chrome for me, but I'll give it a shot. Great 7/Vista integration. and it looks very nice.

Downloaded. This thing is weird. There's no X button, so you can't close a page, you can close the whole thing with exit, but if you have 2 windows, as far as I know you can't close one of them. I'm talking windows not tabs. And what's with this firefox yellow tab that is taking up a whole toolbar row?

Is there a changelog or something that tells us what is new in 4.01?

EDIT- You can change that by selecting to show the menu bar, and that removes the firefox tab and puts back the original with the X and stuff.

Albo, I am not sure what you are talking about with the X thing?

Is it from the jumplists or is it from within Firefox?

I can assure you that both the jumplists and the tabs (when more than 1) show X's for me so you can close individual tabs/windows as needed.

On the other item, I hardly ever use the Menu, therefore the "hidden" menu feature is nice.

The speed of this is pretty good but unfortunately most extensions are not currently supported and I don't want to bastardize my install's functionality by breaking it with stuff that is not supposed to work with the build.

I wonder if they will keep the individual jumplist like thing like IE does? Chrome went that route and got rid of it. Not sure if they will bring it back but it is a nice update to FF.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait until extensions are fully supported though.

I forgot the name for it. At the top of every window of everything, there is a restore, minimize, maximize, and close. They don't show up on the Windows for this version. But you can fix that by un-hinding the menu bar.

I'll give it a go, cheers. The only reason I'm still usiing FireFox is because of the plug-ins. It's been buggy as hell for months now. 3.6 suffers badly from random hangs on all my PC's. I hope this is better.

One of the members here was having issues recently because of one of his plug-ins. Disabling it fixed it. So far 3.6 has been one of the best versions for me.
