Default X11 window geometry issue

Hi all,

We have a system that has a Quadro FX 1800 and two Quadroplex 2200 D2's in it. The FX drives a desktop monitor and the Quadroplexes drive a pair of Sony projectors. Details on the setup can be found here. The setup is designed so that a user sitting behind at a desk can launch an app on the desktop monitor and then drag it to the wall that the Sony projectors project on. So our setup as far as X goes, in a nutshell, is this:

Display 0 is the FX running on the desktop. Displays 1-4 are one Sony projector, and Displays 5-8 are the second projector.

Until recently we had this system running on RedHat 4 with Gnome and everything would run quite nicely. If we invoked the following command it would display the X logo fully on one Quadroplex or the other:

xlogo -geometry 4096x2160+1920+0
xlogo -geometry 4096x2160+6016+0

The top command would display the X logo across displays 1-4 and the second would display it across displays 5-8

We're currently upgrading the environment with a new server. We installed RedHat 5 on it, and we've gotten an xorg.conf that appears to work the same way as the old RedHat 4 setup. The problem we're having now is that commands like the two above don't work as expected any more. Both the above commands result in the X logo appearing in the bottom right quadrant of whichever projector it corresponds to, so the first command displays the X in display 4 and the second command puts it in display 8, rather than stretching across all 4 displays for that projector.

Any ideas what we're missing? We're not X11/Gnome experts by any stretch of the imagination so we're just fumbling along right now, but we thing that this is more an issue with Gnome, not X. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've also attached a copy of our nvidia-bug-report.log.gz so you can see how we have things set up.

Thanks,

-Bruce

If you want to eliminate GNOME as a potential factor here, you can just start a bare X server and try xlogo on that.
