I have to purge the demons from #2 PC this weekend, it has been running XP Pro for years. #2 is the family's PC mostly internet use, light kids gaming and the Sims3.
I was thinking about upgrading the OS, because its been hit a few times with viruses and the usual spam but I really don't want to waste $$ on a new copy or more ram. I have Vista 64 or can continue running XP Pro(32bit) , #2 only has 2gb(DDR2 667) of RAM(C2D 6400{2.4ghz}, Radeon 4870{512gb}, 160gb WD Cav. HD) I'd really like to run the Vista64 but I'm thinking running a 64bit OS might bog this system down and it has a small HD on top of only 2gb.... What do you think... ?

Vista 64 ran fine for me with 2Gb ram, but upping to 4 did make a bit of a difference as running the OS alone usually consumed around 1.1 Gb or so.
That was with SP2 on that rig btw, E8500, 4Gb pc1066 OCZ ram. I loved XP, but would choose Vista64 SP2 over it today. |

I did go with Vista64, I'm in the middle of updating atm... I don't want to make any judgment calls until all the drivers and updates done. but....I have a feeling I'm adding more RAM

Yeah, the difference will definitely be noticeable with 2 more Gb in there. But if it makes you feel any better I had no trouble with it after SP2.
I also installed it on my brother's rig (same specs) and he's having no issues with it either. I did spend a good deal of time searching out tweaks and such though - I'm sure you've already looked into that. |

I would use ANYTHING over Vista. Even WindowsME.
I vote for XP32 bit. |

vista had some issues when it launched, but after sp2 is solid, 7 is nothing more then slighly prettier vista.

Vista64(from the beginning) always ran great for me on my main system....Not so on ol' #2. Vista64 dogged down the system to no end and in the day and a half it was installed I had several "issues" of various kinds. That was enough for me.....back to XP Pro 32bit and all is well, the system is snappy, the kids games run smooth, the network fast and working properly. Looks like XP gets a few more years of life
