I was thinking of getting either a GTX 470 or a GTX 460 I would overclock to at least 800 MHz. Would the GTX 460 OC beat out a stock GTX 470? I know the GTX 460 would be quieter and cooler, but for only $50 I could pick up the GTX 470. Thanks for the advice!
This is for a system with a Core i7 920 and a monitor which runs at 1920X1080.

The 460 will not beat a 470, no. Even overclocked nicely, it'll nip at its heels in some games, but the architectural differences make the 470 perform better overall.

An OC'ed 1GB GTX 460 will come very close to a stock GTX 470 in a few games. But the GTX 470 has a healthy amount of overclocking headroom itself. The increased VRAM on the 470 might also be appreciated on the resolutions you are gaming at.

Yeh, the 470 overclocking headroom will give it a huge performance difference. I'd assume that if you're thinking of overclocking a 460 then you're more than comfortable with overclocking which would mean overclocking a 470 would net you near 480 speeds.... the 470 is a very solid investment if you're an overclocker

I agree if you are going to overclock ,then spend the extra for a GTX 470 because they overclock great too most will do 760/3800 and faster ,my GTX 470 will do 824/3900 ,but I keep it at 775/3800 so I don't have to turn the fan up to a 100%.Trust me you will enjoy a GTX 470 much more .Besides haveing more memory and the 1gig GTX 460 run around $230- to $250 and you can get a MSI for $299.99 and you get a free game.

I've seen reviews that the GTX 470 is a great deal, especially if you can get one for under $300. I don't know if I'll overclock mine too much as I have a 460W power supply in the computer I'll be using it in. Thanks for the input!
