I was exactly the same way when I moved from an e6600 @ 3.2Ghz to a Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4Ghz. At first, the performance difference wasn't noticeable. However, it became obvious as soon as I started using programs that use more than 2 cores. In that area, the Phenom II runs circles around the e6600. What's even more amazing is the price of AMD's processors for the performance you get. Intel just can't compete with AMD on the value front. AMD and the AM3 platform is simply cheaper than anything intel has to offer.

Glad you like your 1090T! They truly are wonderful processors.

Well, it's weird, because most games don't seem to use more then 2 cores anyhow. But maybe because of the architecture, it allows more processes on all of the cores. It is noticeable, the performance difference, and the system just booted right up, so thankfully everything is running pretty darn well out of the box. If I wanted to do some o/cing, I would definitely need water cooling, but since it runs just fine, I won't really need to.

Heck maybe for my uber system (whenever that happens) I'll use an AMD proc and go water cooling for the first time. Heck, even if it's an H50, that would be probably enough.

Your thread (and some other reasons) is prompting me to upgrade.
  • Ph II x3 720BE @ 3.5 to x6 1055t
  • Freezer Pro 64 to Scythe Mugen
  • AMD 770 DDR2 mobo to AMD 870
  • 4gb DDR2 800 to 4gb DDR3 1800
  • 250gb Caviar Blue to a Single Platter Spinpoint
  • Antec Earthwatts EA650 PSU to a Corsair 750

This actually won't be that expensive of an upgrade given that I'm selling most of the older stuff, and it should breathe new life into whatever video card I'm using at the time.

Oh yeah, update that sig!!

That's going to be a nice upgrade you won't regret. 1055 is definitely the sweet spot for price and performance.

Yea, I really didn't need the 1090 specially if I won't overclock. But, maybe later down the road it will be the main rig or something like that. The mobo has SATA 3, and USB 3.0 on it, plus crossfire setup, so it could really be fun!

dude, I would swap out your gtx 285 to the 1090 machine and put your 8800 in the intel machine.

I'd OC that 1090t if I were you. It's a Black chip... just inch the voltage up a bit and stay @ a happy 4ghz so it's on level with an i7 920.

Umm do u understand, that it hits almost 60c running a game, so voltage tweaking sounds kind of dumb to me. Maybe during winter...

Yall might of just changed my mind about all this, if I swap my rigs and make my main rig the AMD system, with SSD and GTX 580, maybe that's the route to go. How many votes would I get for that?

I wanted to go for the 1090 , but it only works out 20-30 cheaper than an i7 950 rig over here. Some really strange pricing structure they had going on.

Seen in the flesh they perform on a par with my 950 with just a slight overclock in most games.
