Default Anyone done the upgrade from a 8800 GTX to 460 GTX?

I have someone who would like to buy my current 8800 GTX for $90, and I am considering taking his offer and picking up a 460 GTX 1GB. Currently, there are a lot of newer games that my current card just doesn't have enough oomph to handle at 1920 x 1200. Will the 460 GTX give me a noticeable boost over my current card? Are there any review sites that pit the 460 and 8800 against each other?

Thanks in advance for any help, I am really trying to figure out if this is an upgrade or just a sidegrade.

The performance of a GTX 460 compared to a 285 is mostly the same with the 285 taking the lead in a small amount of benchmarks. Hopefully that'll help

The 460 is a big jump over an 8800GTX.

Yeah- the 460 is considerably faster. @ 1680 x 1050 it trades blows with my SLi'd 8800GTXs. I was going to get one cause they're so cheap and perform so well- but recently got a 24" monitor and @ 1920 x 1200 I'm wondering if it'd be wiser to just go with the 5850.

Anyhow, if you're gaming on a single 8800GTX @ 1920 x 1200 then the 460 is gonna' feel night and day different I'd imagine. Go for it.

Save your Money. I upgraded to a 470 and I'm just not seeing a huge difference. Maybe the 490 cards will be worth it. Good Luck!

Shoot, that sucks Eltigre. You are the first person I have heard from that has actually done the upgrade, or sidegrade as it sounds, to the GTX 460. I'll maybe sit this gen out then and hope that the next offerings will give a noticeable performance improvement. Thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated.

Just hours after posting the above I ended up pulling the trigger on an MSI 1 GB overclocked model. Ended up getting a free copy of Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, and Resident Evil 5 and a 10 hour time trial version of Star Craft 2 along with the card. Will let you guys know how the card performs - hopefully I am not dissapointed!

With those system specs, I highly doubt you will be disappointed.

Of course the 460 is a horse of a different color from the rest and this months driver was an improvement. I'm sure you will love it. I'm still considering the stepup to the 480...If my board would support SLI I would have stepped down to 2 460's...

Just cancelled my order today and replaced it with an pre-unlocked MSI GTX 465 Twin Frozr II Golden Edition with the copper heatsink. NCIX is selling these cards unlocked to GTX 470 specs with full warranty. Guys are having great luck overclocking them as well averaging over 800 core speeds with 4000+ mem! Cost me about an extra $30 but figured it was money well spent.
