Yes its an ADATA drive but it is an Intel X25 rebranded.

I was looking at the Gskill drive Vin linked yesterday. That adata is a rebranded intel, can't remember if its gen 1 or 2.

That A-DATA SSD I posted earlier is a rebranded Intel X25-M G2. Would that drive be worth $200?

I think I can do with an 80GB SSD minimum. Right now, OS drive has about 66GB used so it would work.

After doing some more thinking and researching, I think buying an SSD right now isn't the best option for me right now.

I've decided to do one of the two following options:

1) 2x 500GB Western Digital Black SATA HDDs put in RAID 0.

Price: $137

OR

2) 1x 640GB Western Digital Black SATA HDD.
Zalman In-line Mic

Price: $95

Do you guys think it would be worth buying two to put in a RAID 0 or just get the one HDD?

I've been doing more research and been hearing that maybe going with Samsung SpinPoint F3 drives perform better than the Western Digital Black drives, not to mention that they are cheaper too. I can get 2 F3s for around $120 so not bad.

The only bad thing about going with Samsung over WD is that I only get a 3 year warranty on the drives. I'm sure by that time I'll be running SSDs so I guess that doesn't matter.

I'm going to read a little more and probably go ahead and order my drives today.

Single platter Blue outperforms the Blacks, and is on-level with single-platter Spinpoints. One of these also reportedly outperforms two multi-platter blues in RAID 0.

I've read that as well. But that's odd, Blue drives outperforming Black drives? Really?

The blues don't outperform the blacks in my experience, don't know where you are getting those numbers from. The sammy F3's do outperform the WD slightly.

I have 6 WD 640s two of which are blues. My set up in my gaming rig is three blacks in short stroked raid 0 for the os. The other 1 tb+ raid is for storage and games.

I will post up some benchmarks when I get back to my desktop.

It's the single platter blues. They're a heck of a lot faster than the multi-platter ones, I'm certain.

I'll get the links, might take a while.

keep the backup of C, and if you manage your OS well you won't have to reinstall.

on my windows 7, I still have applications/games that were installed in mid 2007.

if something goes wrong, I just restore C drive backup and after 10 minute restore i'm back where i was.

But do they outperform the Samsung F3s?

I don't even know if mine are single platter, its been a year or more since I bought them, unless its changed it was the fastest at the time.

Even the WD spec sheet pdf doesn't mention platters on each drive specs.
WD6401AALS is the model number I am talking about. The blues are AAKs I think.
