I think I may just go with the Samsung F3s and throw them in a RAID 0. I will hopefully upgrade to SSDs in a year or two anyways so this will be a good performance boost for a good price. $120 with 2 day shipping isn't bad at all! I can Acronis my current hard drive to these guys and I'll be done.

Just purchased 2x Samsung F3s from Amazon for $120 w/2-day shipping. Great deal and it should hold me over until SSDs come down in price. Once I get them installed and get my current system drive imaged over to the new drives, I'll let you guys know about the performance.

As for the Blacks, like I said, I have not see any confirmation whatsoever showing that the WD Black 500GB drives are of single platter design. AS shown above, the WD 500GB Blue drive does outperform the WD 500GB Black and WD 640GB Black drives. If you can find any info stating otherwise, I'll be glad to read it.

Not what I would call accurate, and blue 500gb does have a higher access time, not a good thing for OS drive.

My new hard drives should be in today. Once I get the RAID setup, I'm gonna use Acronis to clone my current drive over to the two new ones.

I'll try to run a HD test on my current one to see the performance increase.

will that work? cloning from non-raid setup to raid setup? when you clone from non-raid setup windows will not be expecting to wake up on raid drives, will the drivers play nice?

just asking since I never tried to clone a HDD from non-raid to raid.

Not sure if it will work or not. The more I'm reading, it looks like it won't work. Dang, I just reformatted about 4 weeks ago lol. Guess I may just have to reformat again and start over. At least maybe it'll be faster this time installing the OS and apps.

BTW, here is the current speeds of my single drive:

Bottleneck huh?
