Default Opinions on new machine

Hey folks, long time lurker here. I just ordered a new rig this week and was hoping to get a few opinions on what the performance would be out of it. After picking up SC2 and getting abysmal performance and noticing older titles including Dragon Age, and the NWN titles, I have don't seem to be running quite as well these days I figured it was time to just bite the bullet and get a new machine. Keep in mind I haven't upgraded in a good 6 or 7 years, going from a 3200+ with a gig of DDR to the following.

Apevia X-Dreamer 3 Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ Side-Panel Window & Temperature Display
800 Watts - XtremeGear Gaming Power Supply - Quad SLI Ready
MSI X58A-GD65 Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Triple-Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 Audio, eSATA, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III, RAID, IEEE1394a, 3 Gen2 PCIe, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI

Intel(R) Core™ i7-940 2.93 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366
Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan I also maxed out the fan options in the case itself.
6GB (2GBx3) DDR3/1600MHz Triple Channel Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card (EVGA Powered by NVIDIA [
1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive

I know its not the top of the line by any means but can I expect to get decent performance for at least a few years with these specs? Thanks for any feedback!

I was under the impression that there wasn't a difference that the 940 just was at a higher clock 2.9 vs 2.8. Or am I totally wrong in that?

Probably a 460 1 GB is better option? With the the ability to go SLI later?

2x460 in SLI have been shown to perform competitively against 480 but costing lower...

if you get a higher stock clock than the 930 for the same price, go for it, other than that, you probably will not see any performance benefit over a 930, and in either case, the 930/920 CPU overclock like crazy.

Gotcha, yeah it was a free upgrade to the 940 @ 2.93 over the 930 @ 2.83 so that's pretty much why I went with the 940. Figured any speed difference wouldn't really be that noticeable but hey free is free!

No doubt, I got quite the mileage out of this 3200+, I want to say I built it in 01 or 02 if my memory is correct, though then again I did do alot more 360/PS3 gaming for a while there the last year or so, since it was starting to show its age when it came to newer PC releases. I just wanted to get something mid to mid high that was going to last for a few years as I'm too busy these days to keep up with the latest parts and didn't really want to have to upgrade much if at all anytime soon.

Thanks for the replies folks, appreciate the feedback.

Man this system is going to blow you away. I was blown away going from 3200+ to E6600 but this even blows an E6600 out of the water. You definitely won't need to upgrade for a while.

Thanks for that suggestion MUYA, I sent their sales department an email with the requested change (going through cyberpowerpc) after checking the stats of both cards the 460 does indeed seem like the better card. I see card manufacturers still like to use confusing model schemes, though it is somewhat my own fault for not checking first and assuming the higher numbered model of the two affordable Fermi cards was the better spec. We'll see how it goes.

At any rate I don't think I'll have too many complaints either way with the new rig.

Edit: seeing as though 2 460's running in SLI would only be about 100 more, I inquired about possibly going that route, I won't hear back til at least 12:30 est today if its possible to change an order thats already gone to the warehouse. I do have a question for you guys that are far more experienced with SLI and the like, would the 800w PSU that's currently slated for this system still be enough for it? Thanks again for feedback.
