first of all : i´m totally new to linux ... but that should be no problem (i hope so
) my problem is, that when i try to install the new nvidia driver on my redhat9 linux, the installation breaks up telling me, that i have to exit x-server. but iam in the command line, so already exited my desktop ... (the correct error message is like : it seems like you are runnin an x-server ...) so how do i exit the x-server (and what the hell is this ?!) i searched the foum (and the internet) for this problem (if this is a problem) .. but like bono from u2 said : i still haven´t found what i´m looking for i´ll would be very happy if someone can give me advice for this. a little overview - step by step or something. you would make a newbie linux user god damn happy ;-) so far greetinx from germany markus "das schleichgesicht" |

thanks for your quick respone .. but that doesnt solve the problem.
i already hit the combo and iam in the command line interface (after loggin in as root). so now .. i change to the dir where the nvdia file is .. i execute it .. it runs .. and then it tells me, that i probably have an x-server running and the setup ends. iam not guilty !!!! ;-)) |
