Default VDPAU + Composite - slow on GTX470 (some videos)

I've bought GeForce GTX 470 (Zotac AMP) instead of my old 8800gt and now I have problems with some videos (in fact found only one at this moment. I've uploaded it as put [Commie] Kuro****suji II - 09 [1E06A900].mkv):
It's very slow with composite (around 1 frame per 10-15 seconds)
Everything is fine with -vc ffh264.
Mplayer: SVN, rev 31966.
Driver: 256.44

I've attached log for mplayer with all debug options.

Thanks for the report. I've filed a bug, and we'll try to reproduce your problem.

Bug is still reproducable with this video on 256.53 drivers and with rev 32025 but it's changed a bit - slowness now is after rewind, but still same.

I will add a bug report tomorrow when I am able, but I am experiencing this issue as well.

I have two systems that are identical from a software standpoint (openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.5.1, kernel 2.6.34, nvidia driver 256.53, etc etc).

System 1 has a 9800GT
System 2 has a 480 GTX

System 1 can use VDPAU without any issues along side KDE's kwin composite effects.

System 2 freezes up when using VDPAU in bursts of 5-10 seconds where the system is completely unresponsive, then returns for 1-2 seconds, then freezes up again... so on and so forth.

I will post the necessary logs ASAP... just wanted to add to this.

Thanks.

Here is my bug report. I updated to 260.19.04 and verified the issue still exists before running this.

Thanks.

Has Nvidia been able to reproduce this issue? I'm also experiencing this with a GTX470 using 260.19.06. VDPAU works well with composite effects disabled in kwin. If I enable them, I get freezes as described by DrSuSE. I will post a bug report log soon.

I have a same issues on my Gainward GTX460 2GB, VDPAU freezes and composition and 3d performance is extremely poor in comparison with my previous GTS8800. Any chance to nvidia fix this soon???

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug info as instructed after the issue appears ?

Here are the bug reports for my system. I have uploaded a 10 MiB clip that freezes to the vdpau file drop as NightmanTrunc.mkv. vdpau.log.bz2 is a log with composite effects enabled in kwin, and the freeze occurs. vdpau_nocomposite.log.bz2 is with composite effects turned off in kwin (Alt-Shift-F12 hotkey). The video plays fine with composite effects off. Also, I can play the video with -vo xv -vc ffh264 with composite effects on. For some reason, my version of mplayer forces the vdpau codecs with -vo vdpau, so I cannot try -vo vdpau -vc ffh264 because it is ignoring the -vc line.

Apparently, the command line wasn't overriding the system configuration for mplayer. I was able to run -vo vdpau -vc ffh264 and capture a log for that case. The video plays without freezing under this condition.

Issue still exists for me with the latest stable release (.12).

Still exists with latest pre-release, but it seems to me that situation got better: I'm experience "freezes" only at start (after window is created till first frame is dislapyed) and when rewinding (not always, but usual it takes up to minute to rewind file).

Everything is gone when switching back to -vc ffh264 or turning off composite manager (kwin).

I've even updated kde to 4.5.74 (4.6-alpha) - no changes.
