VDPAU screen shots are empty

When playing a video stream (live or from recording) in MythTV using VDPAU attempted screen captures produce empty images. For instance with Imagemagick's

import -window root screen.png

Is there any way to grab an image out of a VDPAU processed video stream?

The "import" command above works fine with any other X11 display, the output is only empty when the window is being filled by VDPAU.

Set the environment variable VDPAU_NVIDIA_NO_OVERLAY=1.

Where? Before starting MythTV, for my capture script which runs import, in the X11 startup, or ...???

Before running MythTV, in whatever shell/script starts MythTV.
