GTX460 + GTX275 + Xinerama causes repeated X crashes

I have a three screen setup using two graphics cards - a GTX460 and a GTX275. I can setup xorg to run the three screens as separate X servers, but whenever I try to enable xinerama, X restarts indefinitely (it shows the nvidia logo, then goes black, waits a few seconds and starts again).

If I just try to use the two screens on the GTX460 with xinerama that works fine.

I previously had GTX275 + 8500GT setup and that also ran xinerama fine on the same drivers, so I suspect it's something to do with the combination of a fermi and non-fermi card when using xinerama.

I originally had the problem in 256.44, and the problem still exists in 256.52. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with X Org 1.7.6.

Sorry, this is a known bug in existing drivers. We have fixed the bug, and the fix will be included in the next driver release series. Sorry for the inconvenience.

(and yes, the bug occurs when mixing cards with different major architectures, and enabling Xinerama, on certain X server versions)

I can't comment on specifics, but I imagine the driver will be out pretty soon. i.e. not 3 months away.

I had this working earlier but I just upgraded my ubuntu from 8.04 to 10.04 and same problem here:
-Two nvidia cards
-Tree displays

Works:
-All three on separate X sessions
-Two screens from same card in xinerama mode

Crashes:
-Two screens from separate cards in xinerama mode
-Naturally all three screens crash also in xinerama

I see some remains of nvidia logo in one of the screens.

But I read what was said earlier and I'm now very much waiting for that driver upgrade!
