I don't see a hard drive benchmarking thread here, so I'll make one.

Bart's Stuff Test is a program I wish I had ran into a long time ago. It features a quick, AND a thorough read AND write test.

USE THE QUICK TEST, AVAILABLE IN OPTIONS!

Here's my (old, noisy, hot, on their way out) Maxtor DiamondMax 9s in RAID 0, hooked to the AMD SB710 Southbridge using PATA-SATA adapters:

Write:
Max: 69.1MB/s
Avg: 67.4MB/s

Read:
Max: 64.6MB/s
Avg: 60.1MB/s

And HDTach for good measure:

... And my single WD Caviar Blue, model WD2500AAKS hooked to an AMD SB600:

Write:
Max: 72.9MB/s
Avg: 69.9MB/s

Read:
Max: 71.5MB/s
Avg: 68.8MB/s

Am I on everyone's ignore list?

Or is this just another case where political and open forum material trumps hardware talk?

Is there something wrong with this benchmark or the download link or something? We have all sorts of benchmark threads, but not one for hard disk speed...

I did notice that once in a while this test will spit out some zeros for some results, and all you have to do is re-run it (the quick test only takes a few secs)...

I couldn't get any results out of Barts after several tries, quick or not so I used ATTO and HD Tach.

Bit of a discrepancy between them, but it seems HD Tach hasn't been updated for some time.

Either way, the SSD has been one of my best ever upgrades, so worth it.

Bart's wouldn't run at all on my machine. I ran ATTO instead.
This is a WD 640GB Caviar Black with AHCI enabled in bios.

I wonder what's the deal with Bart's. Guess I'll move on from using it if so many others are having probs with it. I'll edit the OP and get some results instead with ATTO, which I've never heard of until now. It's be nice however if ATTO could report a score or average though.

Bart's would run on mine, I could watch the writes and bench etc, but it zeros out at the end. I saw your comment about that so tried several different attempts with differing settings with the same results. No idea what the issue could be.

I'm not even sure what the best/most current/accurate bench would be. I was hoping others would jump in and post more of them, but ATTO has always at least been consistent for me.
