Default LG Unveils World's First Dual-core Smartphone

LG Unveils World's First Dual-core Smartphone

Quote:
As promised by LG a few months back, the company has officially announced the world's first dual-core smartphone -- just a few weeks shy of the new year.

BGR is reporting that LG has announced the Android-based Optimus 2X, which is packed with the Tegra 2 processor and what is sure to become baseline specs for future top-tier Android devices.

"Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG's mobile unit, said in a press release. "With unique features such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) mirroring and exceptional graphics performance, the LG Optimus 2X is proof of LG’s commitment to high-end smartphones in 2011."

The dual-core Tegra 2 processor, developed by NVIDIA, clocks at 1 GHz, but with low power consumption and enhanced audio and video performance. LG claims that the dual-core processor also allows for faster web browsing and touch response.

Some other key specifications of the Optimus 2X:

* 1Ghz Dual-core Processor (NVIDIA Tegra 2)
* 4-inch WVGA screen
* 8GB memory (up to 32GB via microSD)
* 1,500 mAh battery
* 8 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera
* HDMI mirroring
* DLNA compatibility
* 1080p MPEG-4/H.264 playback and recording
* Android 2.2 "Froyo" out of the box, with upgradeability to 2.3 "Gingerbread"

The Optimus 2X launches in Korea next month, with Europe and Asia next on the list. U.S. availability has not been announced. But if the success of the Optimus One is any indicator, a U.S. launch is imminent.

Maybe LG Optimus 2X be my next phone or Samsung could release Tegra 2 smartphone in 2011. Really need 8MP flash camera!!!

Here are more videos with benchmarks see 1GHz dual core Tegra 2 destroyed both iphone 4 and Galaxy S in speed and double GPU performance.

I have to chuckle at the battery. Dual core CPU and 4" screen?

My EVO has a 1500 battery with 1 core CPU and 4.3" and with heavy use it might last 8 hours.

Tegra probably has power saving techniques up the wazoo (power gating stuff>)...so maybe they could decent usage purchase from the 1500mAh battery

WVGA? Meh, pass.. besides android isn't even optimized for Dual Cores yet and the GPU inside the tegra 2 isn't even that great.

WVGA is the current standard for most smartphones. 800 x 480 or 854 x 480. How would anyone know if android is dual core optimized or not if there hasn't been a dual core phone yet?

Have to wait and see what the reviews look like for this phone first. If it could even scale to 50% of a 2nd core it should be able to best all of the other phones.

Tegra 2 is the best mobile GPU in realworld tests. Only in benchmarks does it fall behind.
