1st person shooters for me. I do like 3rd person shooters too but a lot of the times the camera never looks right with 3rd person. Dead space FOV was terrible if you ask me. I also tend to sometimes use joypad with 3rd person games sometimes but with first person it is keyboard and mouse all the way...a good example of this is lost planet.

I enjoy them both equally actually. 3rd person is great to see your characters outfit changes (armor upgrades etc.) Morrowind, Oblivion, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines etc. What's the point of upgrading your characters look if you can't see it ? I play Crysis and STALKER (-psp) in 3rd person quite a bit too, find it just as enjoyable as 1st person.

One of the few 3rd person shooters can stand was Mass Effect series. I still haven't played mafia2 don't think I will.

I am fine with either. Depends on what the game was made for. Hitman: Blood Money can be played in first person, but it sucks in first person.

Yup.

Also UT3 with a third person mutator simply rocks.

I prefer first person, but some games simply wouldn't work well without 3rd person. Batman:AA is an example where 3rd person is required to make the combat work. You need to see all around you while lining up your next hit to get big combo's. If Batman was first person, the combat would be much less fun and a lot more difficult to hit higher combo's.

I guess it just depends on the game. But I do agree with the OP that Mafia II would have been better being an FPS than a TPS.

I Prefer 1st Person

Although a few games were good in 3rd person:

Hitman Series
Splinter Cell Series
Max Payne 1&2
Red Faction Guerilla
Dead Space
Mass Effect 1&2
Batman AA
Arcania Gothic 4
Dragon Age

As for preference, I usually like 3rd person for action adventure type games and even RPGs and 1st person for shooters. Games like fallout 3 and oblivion i switch between them often.
agreed

RPGs, depends on type, but mostly 3rd
Shooters, 1st.

I don't agree with that statement, Mafia II is story driven action shooter, where you play a role of Vito. Character has to be seen.

In pure shooters like Doom, the "character" that you play as is not important, just some avatar.
