Default Internet Explorer 9 beta now available!

Now Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 beta and you can test it with 64 bit Flash.

It available in 3 versions for 32 bit Vista, 32 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Windows 7.

Still using FF here but would switch to IE9 if it was really good. Ditched Chrome a while back as I was having a bunch of issues.

I guess one pro of IE9 is that you get a modern browser supporting modern standards yet it has backwards compatibility (with compatibility mode) for pages that have not been updated to display properly in modern browsers (in other words, pages that break standards).

Also one thing that has been requested/on the "to do list" since IE6 was a download manager. It certainly took them long enough. IE9 is like the last to add one.

Also while one can easily show benchmarks of browsers with top of the line processors and graphics, the nature of the hardware acceleration means that we should see better performance with lower processor usage. This will benefit computers/laptops with discrete graphics but not so great processors (dual/single core). So benchmarks on low to mid end systems might be more interesting than high end where quad core hyperthreaded processors can make up for a lack of hardware acceleration.

I just updated my work system to IE9 and it works without problems and is noticeably faster than IE8. The fact that I can use internal sites with IE9 is a huge boon as FF and Chrome both has issues.

So far, I am liking this

I wonder what kind of extension/add-on support will be implement. The look is superior to the other browsers at the moment. I haven't tried any of the bookmark pinning tricks yet, but they look useful

Welcome back Microsoft.

The first thing you'll notice is that browsing is much, much faster with IE9 beta compared to IE8. I'll keep an eye out for browser benchmark articles.

The FRAPS framerate counter also appears with IE9, which indicates that the browser is rendering using 3D acceleration! Some work needs to be done here with FRAPS though as remnants of the frame rate appear as you scroll through the browser

Break it on down

Now where in the &&k":u#c+* {f}@^^ is the favorites menu bar?

I'm reserving opinion on this for now.

I love the speed, very smooth. Haven't encountered any rendering issues yet.

Still don't really care for the default toolbars, and why the heck can't MS allow users to resize configuration windows? That's always been a huge pet peeve of mine and instantly knocks my rating down by 30% or more.

Need more time with it, but an improvement for sure.
